She was born on June 3, 1928 in Tyler, Texas to Ralph Omyn and Nettie Hoskins-Yelverton.
Alta attended Arlington High School and graduated in 1946. After graduation, she began her career working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She married William Charles Bouton on August 31, 1946 and they had 2 children. Later Alta became the first female “frameman” for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Lubbock. She retired August 1, 1986. Alta was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Garland Chapter156 and was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church.
Alta loved cooking, crafts, sewing, and painting. She and husband Bill never met a stranger and helped countless relatives and friends “until they could get back on their feet”.
She is survived by her children Charles Grant Bouton of El Paso, TX, Bettina Gail Bouton-Cox and husband Glen of Lubbock, and David Christopher Bouton and wife Trisha of Ft. Worth; Grandsons David C. Bouton, Timothy Travis Bouton, Shilo Shadid Brooks, and William Glynn Bouton; Great Grandchildren Clementine Clara Brooks and Samantha Hatcher-Sundareshwar and husband Arjun Sundareshwar, Erin and Alex Wilson; and Great-great granddaughter Elanor Sundareshwar.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband William C. “Bill” Bouton, her parents and her brother Ralph O. Yelverton.
Visitation will be Monday, November 3, 2025 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M at Resthaven Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at Resthaven Memorial Park. Honorary Pallbearers are: Kellen McKelvey, Jeremy Sagebiel, K. C. Mild, D. K. Draper, David Bouton, Timothy Bouton, Shilo Brooks, and William Bouton.
