Mario joined the Lubbock Fire Department on January 25, 1982. He was a recipient of the Unsung Hero award for 2010 and the Medal of Valor. He retired in 2012 after 30 years of service.

He was an active member of the Guadalupanos at Our Lady of Grace and the Lubbock Professional Retired Firefighters Association.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Olguin and sister, Betty Cervantes.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Julia Olguin, the love of his life, wife Bea Parras, his children, Lissa Estrada (Paul), Mario Parras (Mallory), Marcelo Olguin (Miranda) and Christiana Delgado (Chris), his grandchildren Alejandro and Paulina Estrada and Miliana Rodriguez; sisters Bessie Saldaña (Tony) and Linda Garcia (Raul); numerous nieces and nephews.
