

Born in Lubbock, Texas, November 26, 1949, he graduated from Coronado High after which he was a Radioman Second Class in the Navy and served until 1972. In July of 1969 he was awarded the National Defense Service medal for supporting the Apollo 11 first Moon landing mission.
He attended USC and Texas Tech and then graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977 with a degree in Radio Television and Film. In 1975 he married Kathy Lynn Howsley and they had two children, Lindsay Louis and Blake Adam. The dissolution of that marriage 23 years later left them sharing countless memories and 10 beautiful grandchildren.
Michael owned Movieland in Lubbock in 1984, was a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch and a chemical supply chain manager for Haas TCM. His love for cinema was unparalleled and it all started back at the Lindsey theater on Main Street in Lubbock where he would spend most of his childhood days watching movies.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Neysa Son; step-father Lee Lively, and his dad Noble Shires. He is survived by his brother, David Shires II and his wife Vicki of Lubbock; daughter, Lindsay Moore and her husband Jeremy of Kingwood; son, Blake Shires and his wife Valerie of Lago Vista; ten grandchildren: Avery, Justin, Zander, Caelin and Racer Moore, Christian, Zion, Mia, Josiah and Andrew Shires; and four nieces and nephews: Neysa, Audra, David III and Colt.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, June 24th at 11:30am in Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.
