Monica Jan Dunlap went home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2016, surrounded by her family. Monica was a devoted and selfless wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend. She loved fiercely, with a genuine desire for each soul she encountered to know Jesus Christ as Lord of All. Monica was born in Muleshoe, Texas on February 19, 1954, to Herbert and Jane Griffiths. Growing up she loved spending summer days on the lake with the St. Clair family, twirling her batons, and playing outdoors, with the exception of the time a snapping turtle latched onto her tongue. Monica earned her B.A. in Education from Texas Tech University in 1976, where she pledged Delta Delta Delta sorority. She went on to teach countless lucky elementary children until she decided to stay home with her own. Monica married her adoring husband Jimmy on February 4, 1989, and they went on to build a beautiful and loving home in Lubbock for the last 27 years. Monica and Jimmy created a life centered on their faith in Jesus Christ and their family. Monica taught countless Sunday School classes and Bible studies, and spent daily time reading, studying, and committing to memory the Word of God. She served diligently in prison ministries, Loads of Love and food vouchers at Westminster Presbyterian Church, and Young Life of Lubbock. Monica especially loved studying the Word in Bible Study Fellowship and with her best friends - her "Covenant Sisters." In her free time, Monica loved to travel to Las Vegas and attend concerts by her favorite artists. Monica was a treasured wife, mother, and grandmother - "Mia" to her nine grandchildren. She loved to watch them play sports and perform, but loved even more to hold them in her arms. They will always remember the precious memories made during their family trips to Destin, Florida. Monica was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Griffiths. Survivors include her devoted husband and best friend, Jimmy Dunlap; mother Jane Griffiths of Lubbock; daughter Sarah and husband Todd Wyrick of Lubbock; daughter Rebecca and husband Michael Moss of Lubbock; stepson Jaret Dunlap and stepdaughter Julie Neff of Lubbock; nine precious grandchildren Kristin, Jas, Jalie, Parker, Peyton, Jacob, Eleanor, Luke, and Tobias; countless extended family and friends; and, of course, her four beloved dogs. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the stem cell unit at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center or Young Life of Lubbock. Online condolences may be offered at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com. Arrangements under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Lubbock, TX.
