She was born on July 10, 1945 in Stamford, TX to John Andrew Hood and Jewel Irene (Pearson) Hood . Ona Beth graduated from Tulia High School in 1963 and later from the AIMS School at Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock. She made Lubbock her home where she worked and loved until her passing. The work that she was most proud of was as a teacher of two year olds at Sunset Church of Christ where she was a member, until her retirement in 2003. She loved teaching her “babies”. If you have attended Obie’s class; you have tasted real vinegar just like Jesus did on the cross; you have witnessed the walls of Jericho fall down (with the pull of a magic string from Miss Obie), and you have definitely felt loved by your teachers! She has even been to Thailand to share her enthusiasm and teaching ideas with other missionairies there.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Jewel Hood of Tulia, four brothers and three sisters. In addition to her “Sunset babies” and dear friends Bob and Janet Gruner, Gail Renne, and Lawanna Smith, she leaves behind 14 nieces and nephews, many grandnieces and nephews, and great grandnieces and nephews. Locally she leaves behind nieces Connie Harrington of Houston, Cathy Box of Tahoka, Cindy Gustin of Brownfield and nephew Gary Ham of Lubbock. She will be missed.
The family has requested donations to Sunset Church of Christ in lieu of flowers.
