Ovena Copelin

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Friday, October 7, 2011 at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 12 pm until service time.

Ovena was born December 9, 1922 in Shallowater, Texas to Elbert and Rachel Paschal. She lived all her life in Lubbock where she met her husband, Tom Copelin. Ovena and Tom were charter members of Skyline Baptist Church where she taught Preschool children for over 40 years. She loved helping people and was a dedicated and faithful follower of our Lord. Ovena was a homemaker and was dedicated to the care and love for her family. She moved to Abilene in 1993 to live with her daughter, Ruby and Ben Streiff, and was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church where she loved making quilts for the Jabez Class to auction for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Many friends and family will miss her wonderful home cooked meals and delicious pies she shared with them.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruby (Ben) Streiff of Abilene and Kay (Richard) Billingslea of McKinney, four grandchildren, Melinda (Tim) Hampton of Frisco, Connie Streiff of Fort Worth, Randal (Leslie) Brown of Plano and Jason (Heather) Streiff of Midland, four great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Austin, Kylie and Cooper.

Ovena was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tom Copelin, two brothers, Elvin Paschal, Roy Paschal, and three sisters, Meta Huddleston, Pearl Ragle, and Geneva Spence.
