Patricia Enid (Pat) Christensen, a loving Christian woman, wife, mother, sister, and friend died June 8, 2017. She was 86 years old. Preceding her in death was her husband of 47 years, Leon. Left to honor her life are her “three boys”, Mike and his wife Laura, Mark and his wife Patty, and Marty and his wife Karen. Also left to honor Pat are a sister, Sylvia Jones, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pat was born on September 29, 1930 in Alva, Oklahoma to Sam and Inez Straight. At the age of 4 months, her family moved to Pratt, Kansas, then at age 4 she moved to Wichita, Kansas where she spent her childhood, graduating from Wichita East High School in 1947. After high school, Pat moved to Enid, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Phillips University in 1953 with a degree in Religious Education. While attending Phillips, Pat also met Leon Christensen and they were married on February 11, 1951.
Pat and Leon moved to Midland, Texas, then to Plainfield, Indiana, and finally to Lubbock, Texas in 1963. It was in Lubbock where they raised a family and Pat began her teaching career. In 1968, Pat completed her ME degree from Texas Tech. For the next three decades, Pat was a teacher at Wolfforth and Hodges elementary schools in Lubbock. Pat had life memberships in the National Education Association, Retired Teachers Association, Texas State Teachers Association, and Texas PTA. She was also a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Iota. She was a lifelong member of the Disciples of Christ Church, and faithfully attended Westmont Christian Church.
Pat was truly a renaissance woman. She could cook, sew, shop and nurse. She could also fish, camp, shoot baskets, garden, discuss politics, or quote Bible verses. Pat believed in Christian servanthood with her family and others. She never gave up on others and had a very forgiving heart. She will leave a large hole in our lives and in the Lubbock community.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Westmont Christian Church or Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences may be offered on our website at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Lubbock, TX.
