She was born to Roy and Faye Phillips on April 10, 1930, in Big Spring, Texas.
In 1959 she married J C “Jake” Douglass, Jr. and they had 2 children, William (Bill) Mathis Douglass and John Robert Douglass.
Over the years, Patsy and her family lived in Big Spring, Phoenix, Ft. Worth, Fort Collins, Boulder, and Denver before settling in Lubbock in the mid 1960’s. In Lubbock she worked as an administrative assistant at Texas Tech Health Sciences System.
Patsy enjoyed singing and had a lovely voice. In every church in which she was a member, she not only was a valued member of the choir; she was also a soloist. In addition to her church duties, she sang and traveled with the Lubbock Chorale. She was a member of Bacon Heights Baptist Church for many years and most recently was a faithful member of Southcrest Baptist Church.
Patsy was an expert seamstress and quilt maker. She loved to travel, and among other places, was able to realize her dream of visiting Israel, Scotland and Ireland.
Most importantly, Patsy loved and prioritized her family and friends above all else. She was a great mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and was heavily involved in raising, mentoring, and nurturing all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her impact on their lives cannot be overstated. She was loved by everyone and had so many friends that, in her later years, they would often compete to be the ones who got to take her to and from church and around town.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jake; her sister, Beth Conklin; her brother, Johnny Roy Phillips; and her son, Bill.
Her surviving loved ones include her son, John Robert Douglass and wife, Anne L Douglass; her grandchildren, Sarah Beth Douglas and James Mathis Douglass; and her great grandchildren, Peyton Jude Douglass and Dylan Wayne Douglass.
A special heartfelt thanks goes out to her dear friend, Rhonda Kauk, for her friendship and care of Patsy during the last months of her life.
