Patsy was born on January 27, 1937, in Fort Stockton, Texas, to Maria Fabiana and Arturo R. Garcia. The family lived on a farm until 1947, when they moved to Lubbock. Patsy attended school in Shallowater and Frenship High School. During her time at Frenship, Patsy became very popular. She was head cheerleader and football queen. Fabiana always made sure Patsy looked her best, hand-sewing her cheer uniforms and clothing.
Patsy went on to have eight children. Once becoming a single mother, Patsy put herself through school at South Plains College to earn her LVN license. Patsy created an incredible career as a nurse and healthcare worker, all while caring for her children. Patsy worked as a nurse for physicians Felipe and Norma Porres. She worked as an LVN assistant in a grant program called Healthcare for the Homeless. When the City of Lubbock Health Department took over the grant, Patsy continued her role in that grant program, and became a staff LVN in the Womens Clinic, providing care to prenatal and family planning patients. When the Health Department closed its clinical services, she took a position at the Presbyterian Clinic with the Community Health Center of Lubbock to continue the same role in the Healthcare for the Homeless Grant and the Womens Clinic. Patsy was an amazing nurse. She loved working in family planning and prenatal care. Patsy was always able to uplift her patients and make them happy, regardless of the circumstances of their pregnancies.
One of Patsy’s greatest passions was supporting and caring for others. Up until her seventies, she continued her education in order to help others. She worked after her retirement as a Certified Community Health Worker at Essential Home Health of Lubbock.
Patsy was always an amazing shoulder to lean on and a listener to anyone who came her way. She had so much love to give throughout her community, from her neighbors to those who also attended Our Lady of Grace. Patsy’s greatest love was her children and grandchildren. She loved her family, and nieces and nephews. The highlight of her days was when her family was all together and able to share a meal. Patsy loved to share her love through her cooking.
