

Pearlie Beatrice peacefully ascended to the warmth of The Son surrounded by her family on Friday the 2nd of October at her home in Kingwood, Texas. Pearlie, affectionately known as "Momma Pearl" to her grand and great-grandchildren, and Ms. Pearl by her many friends, lived to be 88 years old, having fulfilled a full life of love and service to our Lord Jesus Christ and fellow man. She was gentle and gracious, generous and loving and a joy to those who knew her. Pearlie was born in Kirbyville, Texas on the 24th day of May 1927 to Reverend Anderson O'Gilbert and Mrs. Florine Cauley. She was the second and oldest daughter of five siblings raised in a God-fearing family. Pearlie received her preparatory education in Kirbyville, Texas and attended Wheatley High School in Houston, Texas during her high school years.
She was married to Lee Roy Hicks for 45 years prior to his death on August 9, 2005. The couple met and lived in Lubbock, Texas and were faithful members of Lyons Chapel Baptist Church where she served as Deaconess, member of the choir, The Nannie Burrough Mission Circle, and Kitchen Ministry. Her love of the Lord and joy of cooking and baking were her greatest gifts to others. She enjoyed entertaining and serving family and friends delicious dishes of homemade cuisine with delightful cakes, pies and various baked goods. She worked for over 30 years for Dr. Richard Mayer until her retirement in 2001.
Ms. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, Brothers - Jeremiah & Lewis O'Gilbert, and Sister - Ruth Thomas.
Pearlie is survived by her daughter, Gloria Gaines Nash, sister, Carrie Mae Wiley; step-daughters Evelyn Hicks, Flossie Davis, Rosie Prigg (Ronnie); step-son, Lee Hicks (Billie;); and grand-children, Perla Lane (Cleveland, II), Gordon Gaines, Kenneth Davis, Rodney Davis, Keith Hicks (Aquilla), Sherrie Reed (Charlie), Christie Prigg, Rhonda Greenzweig (Michael) and God-daughter, Kashonda Hurst. A total of 21 great grand-children and many more relatives and friends remain to cherish her loving memory.
The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the entire Memorial Hermann Hospice Care Team for their care and compassion during Ms. Pearlie's illness and transition to glory. Pearlie's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and love to Ms. Rubie Green for 8 years of service as a loving provider. Her unwavering support of Mother’s needs were deeply treasured by the family.
