He was born near Crosbyton in Crosby County, Texas, on May 28th, 1929, to Lee Mize and Mamie Pruitt Mize. Raymond was the youngest of Lee & Mamie’s 10 children.
Raymond married the love of his life, Jean Rasberry, on May 29th, 1948, and they were united until her death in 2006.
In addition to Jean, he was predeceased by son Gary, grandson Travis, his parents and all of his siblings, including Allen Mize, Eldred Mize, Fred Mize, Lewis Mize, Lawrence Mize, Mary Mize, Sarah Mize, Jessie Mize and Gladys Noble.
Raymond is survived by his son, Rick Mize, his daughter Debbie Ellison and her husband, Tony, all of Lubbock, and daughter-in-law Sandra Mize of Garland. He is also survived by grandchildren Jay and wife Mindy Mize, Cory Mize, Lindsey Creel and Taylor and husband Landon Geary. Also surviving him are great-grandchildren Alexis Mize, Keira Mize, Oliver Creel, Jack Anthony Creel and Lyla Mize, along with a number of nephews & nieces. Raymond loved his family with all his heart.
Not only was Raymond an amazing son, husband, brother, father, grandfather and father-in-law, he was a very hard worker and excellent provider for his family. He was multi-talented and had a gift for the craft of residential and commercial construction from a very young age, when he built a bathroom for his mother and father at their farmhouse near Ralls. After finishing school in Ralls, he worked with his brothers, had his own company and finished his career working for Spring Valley Construction of Dallas; all building, remodeling and serving as a Superintendent of major construction projects throughout Texas and several other states. Many of the buildings and homes in his portfolio stand today as proud reminders to his family that both literally and metaphorically Raymond was “a wise man who built his house upon a rock!”
Raymond was a cut-up with family and friends. He always had a funny story and was very entertaining while being a good listener as well. He was a member of the greatest generation.
For hobbies, Raymond enjoyed hunting with his brothers, fishing with his sons and Vegas casinos with his daughter!!
His were the strong arms of support for anyone who needed him. He cared hard! Most importantly, Raymond was a man of deep faith in his Creator and Savior. For the rest of us believers, we take great comfort and assurance that there is a celebration in heaven as he is reunited with Jean and all of those he loved who have gone on before him.
There will be a celebration of Raymond’s life at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 29th, 2025, at Resthaven Funeral Home.
