

Rev. William D. McReynolds, of Lubbock, Texas, died Friday, May 4, 2012. The body will lie in state at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Lubbock through Wednesday. Interment will be held at 10 am Thursday, May 10, at Elmwood Cemetery in Abilene, Texas followed by a celebration service at 4 pm in Lubbock, Texas, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. Rev. Russell Parchman of McKinney and Rev. Andrew Hurst of Lubbock will officiate. The family wishes to invite all who attend to join them for a time of fellowship and remembrance following the service.
William was born Oct. 2, 1927 in Martin County, Texas, to Howard and Lucile McReynolds. He graduated from Midland High School, served his country in the Navy toward the end of World War II and several months thereafter, graduated from McMurry College and at-tended seminary at Perkins School of Theology at SMU. “Brother Mack,” as he was affectionately known by many, served his Lord and Saviour as a faithful servant for 42 years as an ordained minister of the United Methodist Church in both the Northwest Texas and the New Mexico conferences. His many pastorates in Texas included the Colorado City Circuit, the McCauley Circuit, the Blair Circuit, Wilson, the Fate Circuit, Abilene Wylie, Pleasant Valley in Amarillo, Idal-ou, Spur, Lockney, Elmwood West in Abilene, Quanah, Dumas, Hereford, St. Mark’s in Midland and St. Mark’s in El Paso. He also served two churches in New Mexi-co - St. John’s in Santa Fe and First United Methodist Church in Clovis. When visiting his favorite vacation site in Tres Ritos, NM he often conducted summer ser-vices. Following his retirement in 1991, he continued to serve as an interim pastor and supplied many pulpits until Alzheimer’s Disease rendered him unable to con-tinue preaching.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Clay McReynolds, whom he married on June 1, 1948, one daughter, Ellen Coffman and husband, Larry, of Borger, Texas, two sons, Rusty McReynolds and wife, Shirley, of Lubbock, Texas, and Clay McReynolds and wife, Cindy, of Mansfield, Texas, as well as one foster daughter, Teresa Luanie Kok of Edmonton, Canada. He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Minnie McReynolds of Virginia, 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. William was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Minter and wife, Loreta, McReynolds and Dale McReynolds, and one daughter, Ann Elizabeth McReynolds. Papa lived a full life and demonstrated to all his love of God, his family, his country, the Methodist church and the beauty of the natural world created by his Lord.
