He was born to Rodney Lee Walker and Charlene White Walker in Loraine, Texas, on January 9, 1951. He was a lifelong resident of Loraine until he graduated from Loraine High School in 1969. He attended South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, and Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where he studied Wildlife Management.
Ricky was the District Lab supervisor when he retired from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in August of 2006 with 32 years of outstanding service to TxDOT and our great State of Texas. Ricky is fondly remembered for his hard work, along with his smile and laugh. Many of the Lubbock district’s engineers worked in the young engineering rotation program and learned a great deal from Ricky. He left a great legacy and strong work ethic with TxDOT.
After retirement, Ricky’s goal was to create a place where family and friends could gather and have memorable times. The completion of the “Barn House” in November of 2007 was the beginning of many celebrations at the family ranch. This was his happy place, and he loved sharing it with those dearest to him. His love and presence will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rodney Lee Walker, and son, Brett Lee Walker. Ricky leaves behind to cherish his memories his mother, Charlene Martin (Kenneth); wife of over 44 years, Donna Finch Walker; daughter, Ashley Michele Walker-Rankin (Scott); sisters, Kristi Susan Kreier (Jim) and Teresa Jane Hughes (Johnny); sisters-in-law, Patricia Lea Finch and Debbie Sue Finch; cousin, Craig Collins; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family invites you to join them as they celebrate Ricky’s life on Friday, March 4, 2022, with a 2pm Celebration of Life and reception at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hospice of Lubbock, 3702 21st Street, Lubbock, TX 79410, or to a charity of your choice.
