Robert Rob Matthew Buffa

Funeral services for Robert “Rob” Buffa, 58, of Anton, will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at 10:00 AM in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. He passed away on Friday, May 6th.

Rob was born on Oct 10, 1952 in St. Louis, Missouri to Henry and Bette Buffa. He graduated from Parkway Central High School in St. Louis and received his BS from Missouri Valley College, in Marshall, Missouri. He married Sue Lawson in Lubbock on May 11, 1990.

Rob began his 41 year coaching and teaching career in the St. Louis area prior to coming to Lubbock High in 1981. He later coached and taught at Lubbock Dunbar, Cotton Center, Wilson, Follett, Kress and most recently at Anton.

Throughout his coaching career, he was recognized and received various awards. Most recently he was inducted into the Texas Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame as the 2005 Baseball Coach of the Year for the South Plains.

Survivors include his wife, Sue; one daughter, Tara and husband Jay Durheim of Spring, TX; one son, Benjamin and wife Chelsey Buffa of Russellville, KY; one brother, Scott Buffa; and two sisters, Allison Shaw and Barbara Buchanan; four grandchildren, Cheyene, Taos, Lily and Leah.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
