Sarah Virginia Hirsch Routh Crosby, 89, passed away on Monday, September 8, in Lubbock, Texas. Born November 6, 1924 to Lorena and Dan Hirsch in Gatesville. She married Bill Routh in 1948 in Odessa. They lived most of their 50 years together in Seminole, where they raised their family. Bill passed away in 1998 in Kingsland. Virginia later married Gene Crosby in Kingsland; after his death in May 2013, she moved to Lubbock. She is also preceded in death by her loving parents and daughters-in-law, Glenda Routh and Shirley Routh
Virginia enjoyed being a Pink Lady at Seminole Memorial Hospital. She liked dancing, traveling, cooking and baking delicious pecan pies. She loved sitting on the porch and watching the birds, and she loved the Hill Country where she was born and raised.
As the only child, she always wanted enough brothers and sisters to field a baseball team. Instead, she was blessed with enough children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to field several teams.
Virginia is survived by her children; Gail (Routh) and James Dyess of Mineral Wells, Linda (Routh) and Ralph Loerwald of Lubbock, and Robert Wayne (Bobby) Routh of Buchanan Dam, her grandchildren; David Dyess, Amber (Dyess) and Danny King, Eric and Lori Dyess, Wayne and Julie Loerwald, Megan Loerwald Martin and close friend Eleazar Singleterry, Jeniffer Jones, Corie Routh Gonzales, Billy Routh, and her great-grandchildren; Anthony, Preston, Austin, Derek, Morgan, Beau, Bren, Hayden, Erica, Jaeden, Nathan, Ethan, Alex, Keegan, Emmy, Staci, Kylee, Bryan and Cadance.
Virginia and her family offer heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to all the wonderful and caring people who have entered our lives during this Alzheimer journey, including Inspiration of Lubbock Outpatient Counseling Center, Cuidado Casero Hospice, Hospice of Lubbock, Mary Jenkins Private Christian Home Care and Dr. Suzelle Moffit who led us into the hospice world.
We also thank all our loving friends, neighbors, church members and extended family members who have given us much needed support. Above all, we thank Pastor Mike McCreight and caretaker Mary Jenkins for changing our lives forever—you were truly God sent; our angels here on earth--blessings to you all!
Visitation will be Friday, September 12, 2014 from 6-8PM at Resthaven Funeral home in Lubbock. Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 1:00PM at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, Kingsland/Burnet, Texas.
