Stephen Michael Butts, 40, of New Home, Texas, passed away on April 30, 2026. Born on October 16, 1985, he was the beloved son of Mike and Bobbi Butts, who raised him with a strong foundation of faith, integrity, and compassion—values he carried with him throughout his life.
Stephen was a devoted follower of Christ, steadfast in his walk with the Lord and unwavering in his commitment to live out his faith daily. He was known for his selflessness, humility, and gentle spirit. Whether through a quiet word of encouragement, a thoughtful act of service, or simply his steady presence, Stephen made those around him feel seen, valued, and cared for. His life reflected a sincere desire to serve others and to glorify God in all he did.
On October 29, 2011, Stephen married the love of his life, Krista Butts. Their marriage was a beautiful reflection of partnership, devotion, and shared purpose. Together, they built a home centered on faith, love, and service. Stephen was a deeply devoted husband who cherished Krista and supported her with unwavering love and kindness.
Stephen’s greatest joy was being a father. He treasured every moment spent with his children, Lincoln Michael Butts (born 2020) and Esther Clementine Butts (born 2023). He approached fatherhood with intentionality, patience, and deep love, striving to lead his children by example and to instill in them the same faith and values that guided his own life. His legacy will live on through them.
His dedication to learning and leadership was evident throughout his life. Stephen graduated from Wayland Baptist University and went on to earn a Master of Theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He had a deep love for Scripture and was passionate about teaching and discipling others. As an elder at The Fellowship Church of Lubbock, Stephen faithfully shepherded those in his care, offering wisdom, encouragement, and biblical guidance. He invested deeply in relationships, walking alongside others in both seasons of joy and times of hardship.
In addition to his ministry, Stephen was the Owner and CEO of Golden Circle Financial Group. He led his business with integrity, diligence, and a genuine desire to serve his clients well. He viewed his work not simply as a profession, but as another avenue through which he could help others, build trust, and reflect his values.
Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Krista Butts; his children, Lincoln and Esther; his parents, Mike and Bobbi Butts of Lubbock; his brother, Daniel Butts of Amarillo; his sister, Sarah Butts of Abernathy; and his grandmothers, Reita Butts of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Beverly Jane Fagan of Lubbock, Texas. He is also lovingly remembered by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and faith.
He was preceded in death by his two infant children, Olivia Fe and Gracen, whom he loved deeply; his grandfather, Clarence Conrad Butts of Macon, Georgia; and his grandfather, Bob Fagan of Lubbock.
Though his time on earth was far too short, Stephen lived a life marked by purpose, faithfulness, and love. His legacy is one of quiet strength, steadfast faith, and a heart devoted to serving God and others. He leaves behind a lasting impact on his family, his church, his community, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. at The Fellowship Church of Lubbock, located at 75th Street and Avenue U in Lubbock, Texas.
Stephen Michael Butts will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. While his absence is deeply felt, those who knew him find comfort in the assurance of his eternal home with the Lord and in the enduring legacy of faith and love he leaves behind.
