Teddie June (Dyess) Whitley Chapman

She lived her life as a faithful Christian and worshipped at Sunset Church of Christ. There will be a visitation Tuesday from 4:00 – 6:00pm at Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock. Then services will be held at Resthaven on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.

She is preceded in death by her parents O.R. “Jack” and Vergie Dyess and is survived by her dear brother, Booth Dyess. June was born June 30, 1933, in Ralls, Texas where her family was farming. In her younger childhood the family moved briefly to New Mexico and to Colorado. When they’d saved enough to buy a farm they moved to Smyer, Texas where June grew up and graduated high school. It was in Smyer that she met Clifford Whitley. They married on December 16, 1950. They celebrated 53 years of marriage. They had three daughters; Connie, Pam and Sandy and made a life farming there. In 1960 the family moved to Lubbock.

June was known as a fun, joyful person who loved life to the fullest. She enjoyed family fishing and beach trips to the Texas coast and lakes. Las Vegas was also one of her favorite vacation spots.

June was most happy when cooking and baking for her family. She was an excellent seamstress and made many of our clothes when we were growing up. She continued sewing for us even into our adult years.

Later in life, June was a big part of her grandchildren’s lives and loved them dearly.

After Clifford’s passing in 2004 she married Jack Chapman. They enjoyed traveling and gardening for 15 years until his passing a few years ago. The roses and other flowers in her yard tell that story.

She’s most loved for her role as caregiver. She said recently that she has to go take care of Cliff and Jack.

She is survived by three daughters: Connie (John) Richardson,

Pamela (John) Hensley, and Sandy (Dusty) Staggs. She also leaves

7 grandchildren:

Zane (Linda Betancourt) Richardson, Cale Richardson, Levi Hensley,

Shaun (Hong) Zhai, Holden Hensley, Donovan (Alinne) Staggs, and

Baron (Stormie) Staggs.

June was also blessed with 7 great grandchildren:

Lucia, Anya, Mateo and Lucas Staggs; Opal and Bruce Staggs, and

Audrey Zhai.
