Terry was born on February 26, 1949, in Port Arthur, Texas, to George Kilburn and Roselyn Richardson, both of whom preceded him in death.
Terry lived a life rooted in faith, service, and deep love for his family. Faith and family were central to who he was. He cherished time with his loved ones, valued lifelong friendships, and was a devoted supporter of Texas Tech athletics. He also found great joy in the companionship of his dog, Millie, and his cat, Maggie.
Terry was actively involved in several church families over the years, including Southcrest Baptist Church, Monterey Church of Christ, and Green Lawn Church of Christ—each of which played an important role in his spiritual journey.
Terry graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 1971. He began his professional career as an English teacher at Gardner Junior High School in Russellville before accepting a career opportunity with Walmart, where he served as an assistant manager.
Later, Terry followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather by entering civil service, completing 40 years of dedicated service with the Social Security Administration. After retiring, he continued working at Covenant Hospital—not out of necessity, but as a way to remain active, serve others, and stay connected to his community.
In addition to his civilian career, Terry proudly served as a Chief in the United States Navy Reserve.
Terry is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; his sons, Phillip (Gretchen) and Jason (Angela); his grandchildren, Tristyn (Kristen), Jacob (fiancée Blayke), Taylor (Lane), Emily, and Tucker; and his great-grandchildren, River and Cohen. He is also survived by his siblings, Charlotte (Richardson) Sudhop (Charles), Gary (Debby), and Robyn.
He was preceded in death by his brother, George K. Richardson II, and his sister, Nancy (Richardson) Loper. Terry is also remembered by his longtime friends, Kye Lear of Lubbock, Texas, and Ed Hardesty of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, January 23, at 10:00 a.m. at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Terry’s life. In honor of Terry’s lifelong passion for Texas Tech athletics, the family requests that attendees wear red and black or Texas Tech apparel.
Guided by his faith, Terry lived his life in a way that reflected Christ’s love to those around him. As Matthew 5:16 reminds us, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Terry’s light was evident through his kindness, humility, and servant’s heart, and that light will continue to shine through the lives he touched.
