Mr. Trujillo was my favorite teacher in school. I was a closeted gay boy, living in a rural town in the southern U.S. I was depressed and didn't know it. I didn't think after high school there would be anything good for me.

He was a kindred spirit in a way I didn't know. Mr. Trujillo always kept his personal life private, but I think because he was smart, kind, and empathetic, he could see right through the walls I was trying to put up as a closeted high school student.

I didn't continue in theater after graduating high school or anything like that, but I think having a space where I could be just a little bit my true self, be weird and loud and that be *safe* was enough to keep me afloat and maybe even see a glimpse that things could be good after high school, that I could become something more. 

I had no idea that you had passed away--I searched your name on a whim tonight, something I've done over the years just to see if there was some slim chance that you had a social media account hidden away.

Regardless of all this, I just want to say you and your class meant a lot to me growing up, and I'll do my best to carry your spirit with me moving forward.

Mr T welcomed me into the theater troupe with welcome arms. I felt out of place living in Levelland after moving from a different country. I have a special place in my heart for our beloved theater teacher.

Dear Mr . Trujillo,
Funny enough, before I received your contact information, you had been on my mind for a whole week. I wanted so badly to tell you how much you’ve meant to me in my life. Last week, I even searched for you on every social media platform—but I should have known you wouldn’t be on there! Still, I just felt a strong need to reach out to you and express my gratitude. I’m sure you already know, but I want to tell you again: you made such a difference in my life. I remember the way you spoke to me, and the things you said that carried so much meaning. At the time, I was a closeted gay boy, growing up in an uber-religious family, trying every day to be someone I wasn’t. But in your class, I felt safe to simply be myself. It wasn’t because of anything you explicitly said or did—it was just the environment you created, your presence, and the way you made me feel seen. It wasn’t until I was 24 years old that I finally decided to be honest with myself and the people around me. I came out as gay, but it was a challenging road. When I told my parents, they didn’t speak to me for over a year. I became suicidal and fell into drugs and alcohol. Eventually, we repaired our relationship, but only ten years later, they got back involved in church and stopped speaking to me again. As a little boy, I had such big dreams. They weren’t my parents’ dreams, and truthfully, no one around me really understood. But you—you always supported me in your own way, and for that, I am so deeply grateful. At the time, you were the only person I knew—or at least suspected—might be gay. I’m not sure what your journey has been, but knowing that you were there, that you might understand or simply accept me, meant more than you’ll ever know.  I think of you so often, Mr. Trujillo. You shaped my life in ways I can’t fully put into words. I wanted you to know that I love you, and I carry your spirit and kindness with me every day.

He was simply the best. He made my years at LHS fun and exciting with his class. He was always welcoming and you can bet if I was having a bad day he had a way of making me smile. Even years after I graduated if I ran into him he always had a hug. He was a true light to all those whose path he crossed.

Mr. Trujillo was a light in every student’s life. His classroom was always a welcoming space and he inspired his students to achieve their full potential. He will be greatly missed and his legacy will live on in each of our lives. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

My prayers for all of the family and loved ones, I had the great privilege of knowing Mr. T he was a great Teacher and an amazing human being. You will be greatly missed by all the people who were blessed to have known you!

Tim was a great friend! I worked with him at Levelland  High School. Every time we talked, we would end up laughing! What a beautiful  person! I am so sorry  for y'alls loss. I am so glad to have known him. He made my days brighter! Praying  for you all!

My condolences to the family and loved ones. Mr. T was an amazing person . He loved his students, brought smiles to everyone and felt more like a friend than a teacher to most. He’ll be dearly missed.

He was one of the best teacher/people I've meet! You will be deeply missed and thanks for showing my the love of theater when I didn't seem to love it myself

My husband, Dan, and I got to know Timmy well when he worked at El Papagayo Restaurant, our FAVORITE. We adored him and always were SO GLAD when he waited on us. We loved talking with him and were so impressed learning about his teaching career. Such a talented man. He was absolutely delightful.

Also, he was a spot on server!!

Timmy was definitely one of a kind. He was always smiling and his laugh was contagious to say the least.  Camille and I will always cherish the evening we had dinner at their home which Timmy tried to play it off as a homemade dish.  Before the night was over, Timmy being the honest man that he was told us he had picked it up at Carino’s.  There was always love and laughter in his presence.  
We were fortunate to see the love he had for his students as a drama teacher during their competitions we attended.  There were numerous students that would come up to him which we could see the respect they had for him.  
He touched so many lives and set great examples. 
Our deepest condolences to Bobby, family and friends— Camille and Susan Rosalez.

Mr. Trujillo is definitely one of a kind. His classroom was a safe space, not only to me but to so many students. He has the BIGGEST heart & truly showed his love for his students. He was more than a teacher, he was a friend. He touched the hearts of so many people, throughout his life. It’s been 8 years since he taught me & I will forever have a special place in my heart for him. To his family I cannot imagine how y’all are feeling but I send my condolences & prayers for healing.
