

Mrs. Tommie Jo Johnson Wolff was born September 7, 1928 in Lakeview, Texas. She was the daughter of Julius Jordan (“Dude”) Johnson and Vera Mildred Gleaton Johnson. Tommie lived the early part of her life on the plains of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. She began school and spent her youth in Yeso and Ft. Sumner, New Mexico.
Tommie graduated high school from Clovis, New Mexico. During this time, she was named “Miss Clovis” in a beauty pageant. In 1946, she married Gustav (Gus) Rudolph Wolff, a native of Chicago, Illinois. Gus was an airman stationed at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis. While Gus was in the Reserves, the Wolffs spent some time in their early marriage in Long Beach, California. They then moved to Chicago where they lived for several years and where their son Robert was born. After having lived in Chicago, the family moved to Clovis for a while, then to Levelland, Texas. Finally settling in Lubbock, Gus operated his own business in Lubbock with Tommie as his bookkeeper Tommie was a member of Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church where she sang in the church choir. One of her early memories was of the family gathering around the piano, (which her mother played), while her dad played the violin, and she and the other members of the family sang. Tommie loved her yard and flowers, a trait echoed from her mother. One of the great joys in the lives of Tommie and Gus was square dancing. They belonged to several square dance clubs and participated often.
In her later years, Tommie was a resident of Lubbock Hospitality House and Heritage Oaks. While there she enjoyed Gospel Music Night, bingo, and crafts. Mrs. Wolff is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gus, their son, Col. Robert E. Wolff, a sister, Evelyn Tatham, and a brother Julius (Jay) Johnson. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Nancy Wright Wolff, two grandchildren, Robert E. Wolff Jr. (Sarah) of Arlington, TX; Whitney Thompson (Jeffrey) of McKinney, TX; three great grandchildren; Elli Wolff, Evangeline Wolff, and Hailey Thompson; her brother, Gerald (JoBeth) Johnson of Phoenix, a sister-in-law, Eva Johnson of Clovis, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, October 23, 2010, in Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel with Mrs. Wolff’s niece, the Rev. Dr. Cheryl Tatham officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Friends are invited to come by from 9am to 6pm on Friday for viewing.
