Vera Mae Decker was born June 9, 1920 to John Robert and Laura Mae Ross Decker, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She met Raymond Leroy Boatwright at a church party and they were married on February 16, 1941. They were married for 60 years, with Leroy preceding her in death on April 17, 2001. She had many close friends at Sunset Church of Christ, and they provided assistance, transportation to church, and frequent visits over the years. She passed away on February 16, 2019, in Fredericksburg, Texas, where she had lived near her son, Raymond and his family, who were primary caregivers since July, 2018.
Vera was an active member at Sunset Church of Christ, serving as a Bible class teacher, traveling on mission trips, and working for many years as a secretary and book-keeper for the Sunset School of Preaching.
Vera is survived by children Delilah Clapp of Keller, Texas, Raymond Boatwright Jr.(wife, Judy) of Fredericksburg, Texas, Thomas Boatwright (wife, Donna) of Burleson, Texas and Tim Boatwright (wife, Venice) of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by sister-in-law Jody Decker of Abilene, Texas, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held at the Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 West 19th in Lubbock, from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. The funeral service will be held at Resthaven at 1 pm on Thursday, February 21, 2019. Monty Pettyjohn and Dr. Lowell Johnson from Sunset Church of Christ, will officiate. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
