

Mrs. Baker was born in Pontotoc, MS, August 1, 1917, the oldest of six siblings and moved to Texas at age four. She attended Dixie School and graduated from Tahoka High School in 1934. Moving to Lubbock at age 17, she attended Draughon’s Business College. After graduation she was offered a job with Baker Printing Company by a young entrepreneur, Lennis Baker. They were married in 1940 and created a partnership lasting 60 years until his death in 2000.
Mrs. Baker was active both in the business and civic community. She was a member of the Lubbock Women’s Club, LCU Associates, Clement Sorosis Study Club, Horizon Study Club and the Junior League of Lubbock. The Lennis and Verdie Baker Conference Center at Lubbock Christian University honors their service to the university. She was a member of the Broadway Church of Christ for more than 70 years.
Survivors include three daughters: Carol Adams and husband, Cramer, Beverly Crossnoe and husband, Marvin, and Janet Durham and husband, James. Her sister, Vasti Pipkin, sister-in- law, Doris Warren, and brother, Bill Warren, also survive. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Chetlen Crossnoe, Reagan Crossnoe, Michelle Keyser, Julie Eady, Lori Ticknor, Dallas Durham and Grant Durham. Her great-grandchildren include Autumn, Rachel, Cole,
Conner and Rebecca Crossnoe, Shannon and Katherine Keyser, Brennan, Ryan and Landry Eady, and Grant and Garrett Ticknor.
The family wishes to thank Raider Ranch and their caring staff as well as wonderful private caregivers. Memorials may be made to the Children’s Home of Lubbock, Lubbock Christian School or Lubbock Christian University.
