Verlon R. Armstrong

He served as a medic in the U.S Army prior to working for the Housing and Urban Development (formerly the Federal Housing Administration) from 1958 until his retirement in 1988. He graduated from Whitharral High School and attended Draughn’s Business College.

He married Nona Winford on August 8, 1958. From this union came 1 daughter; Marcy Washam and 3 sons; Michael, Mark and Mitchell (Sharon), 4 grandchildren; Kaydie, Jarrod, and Jacob Washam and Toni Armstrong; 4 step-grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and 1 step great-grandchild. Other survivors include brother Willie (Margaret), sister Mona Martin (W.D) and several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Monterey Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a Gideon and a faithful servant wherever he was called. Services will be held at Monterey Baptist Church on Saturday March 9, 2013, at 1pm with Brother Jim Brown officiating. Visitation will held Friday, March 8th from 6-7:30pm at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Donations in his honor can be made to the building fund at Monterey Baptist Church on 50th street, Alzheimer’s Association or a favorite charity.
