Veta Thornton Hicks

Veta was an exceptional student, serving as the valedictorian of her eighth-grade class in Wellman before graduating from Seagraves High School in 1962. She continued her education at South Plains College and later attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

On January 14, 1964, she married Norman Hicks. Throughout her life, Veta was deeply involved in her church, First Baptist, as well as numerous community activities in Seagraves.

She is survived by her daughter, Stacey Laub; her daughter in-law Claudia Romero; four grandchildren, Nesly Chavas, Jose Rosales, Diana Hicks and Christian Hicks; her brother, E.W. Thornton (Aleta Ann); and three sisters, Ann Goff, Yvonne Smith, and Virginia Franklin (Ted). She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

Veta was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Darlene Sellers and Lou Lumpkin; and her son, Greg Hicks.

She will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to family and faith, and her unwavering commitment to her community. Her warmth and love will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
