

Virginia McNeill Jung, “Penny”, passed away at her home Sunday, July 31, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Denver, Colorado on November 12, 1930 to Florence and Reese McNeill, and shared a birthday with her beloved father.
Penny graduated from Spur High School where she was Valedictorian, Band Drum Major, and class favorite. Following high school, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri for one year, and then transferred to the University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of the Iota Chapter of Chi Omega sorority. Later, her daughter and three of her granddaughters became members of the same chapter. At UT she met her adored husband, Harry, in 1949.
They were married in Spur in 1951, and she joined her husband in Sapporo Hokkaido Japan where their first child was born. The Jungs returned to Austin where Penny assisted in sending her husband to UT law school. During this time, their 2nd child was born. After law school, the Jungs moved to Crosbyton for 12 years where she taught English for two years and had their 3rd child.
In 1968, the Jungs moved to Lubbock where Penny was a member of the Women’s Bar Auxiliary; Chi Omega Alumni Association; First Methodist Church’s H. I. Robinson Sunday School Class; Women’s Club; Lubbock Country Club Ladies Golf Association; and various bridge clubs. Recently, Penny and Harry celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
She is survived by her husband Harry; a brother Frank of Houston; her children Cathy and Kevin of Lubbock and Harry of Georgetown; six grandchildren, Emily, Natalie, Sally, Lily, Austin, and Harry; and one great granddaughter.
Visitation is Tuesday, August 2nd, from 6 to 7 pm at Resthaven. Memorial services are scheduled for Wednesday, August 3rd, 11 am at First United Methodist Church. Condolences may be offered at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com
