William H. Wilkes

He was born July 1, 1929 in Connersville, Indiana to Harry and Thelma Wilkes. William was raised in Rushville, Indiana. He had one sister, Lavon.

William was 21 years old when he joined the Air Force on May 31, 1950. He spent two years in Japan, where he worked on airplanes until he hurt his back, and then got another job refueling the airplanes. William was honorably discharged in December, 1953.

He then went to Lubbock, TX where he married Virginia Davis on February 2, 1954. Virginia had two daughters, Shirley and Sherry; William and Virginia had one daughter, Patricia, and two sons, Wayne and Gary.

William had several jobs after being in the Air Force for four years. His favorite job was working at the Lubbock Country Club, where he was the Maintenance Engineer for 25 years. He retired in 1996.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Thelma, and his sister, Lavon Benedict.

William is survived by his three children: Patricia Short, Wayne and wife, Carol, and Gary and wife, Marrianne. He is also survived by his adopted brother, Owen Wilkes.
