Yvonne Steele

Yvonne “Ma” Steele passed away the morning of Wednesday, December 22, 2022 at Brookdale Monterey Memory Care at the age of 89. She was born in Ossineke, MI on April 23, 1933 to May and Joseph Labell and lived in Lubbock since 1977.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Orville Steele; her parents, 4 brothers, Bobby, Billy, Tiny Joe, Jim (SIL) Georgie Labell; sisters, Mary Louise Labell, Jenette Pernie, Freda (BIL) Eddie Schultz, JoJo Precord, (BIL) Skip Robinson; and 2 nieces.

Yvonne is survived by her daughter, Jo (Dickie) Overstreet; son, Mike (Jill) Cordes; daughter, Bonnie (Al) Ilicin; 6 granddaughters: Casi (Corry) Sullivan, Cori (Marcus) Gressett, Bayli Cordes, Jami (Duane) Benoit, Jessi (Steve) Tola, Jo (John) Meads; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernice (Don) Kuehl, Winnie (Keith) Holmes, Nancy Robinson; brother-in-law, Jim Precord; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great friends.

She spent many hours volunteering for the VA taking veterans to the hospital in Amarillo, the VFW and Fraternal order of Eagles. Yvonne also worked many years as a cafeteria manager at Hunt Elementary and loved all of “her kids.”

Her favorite things to do was watch her son and his team play softball, play slots in Laughlin, NV, Ruidoso, NM, 8 liners, cards, and pretty much anything to do with gambling.
