
Mr. Gene A Chavis, of 6401 Hwy 74 W., Rowland was born on October 7, 1933 to the late Rev. B.C. and Mattie Chavis in Robeson County. He departed this life on Thursday, Agust 19, 2010 at Duke University Medical Center. He is preceded in death in addition to his parent by two brothers, Lawrence P. Chavis and Early B. Chavis, a sister; Mae Carraciolo, and a granddaughter, Constance Locklear.
He was a minister for 43 years and pastored five different churchs throughout his life. He was currently the pastor of Independent Full Gospel Holiness Church. He was a great leader, husband, father, granddaddy and friend to all he encountered.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 PM Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Independent Full Gospel Holiness Church. Burial will follow in the Chavis Family Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Betty R Lee-Chavis of the home, four sons; Gene C. Chavis and wife Healy of Raleigh, Timmie Chavis and John Chavis both of Rowland, Michael Chavis and his wife Melissa of Red Springs, five daughter; Pamela Strickland and husband William of Fairmont, Connie Locklear and husband Stevie, Fala Williams and husband Dewey, Audrey Archevald and husband Billy, Justin Chavis-Hall and husband Nicky all of Rowland, one brother; Luther Chavis of Pembroke, three sisters; Trudy Olivero of New Jersey, Clementine Dial of Myrtle Beach, and Carol White of Hope Mills, 19 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
