She was born on July 30, 1937 in Robeson County, NC, to the late Vester and Thelma Musselwhite.
Rachel grew up in Barker Ten Mile where she and her late husband, Preston Hamrick, settled in 1972. She was an elementary school teacher for 38 years, most recently at Prospect School.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9pm Monday, January 2, 2011 at Biggs Funeral Home in Lumberton.
A Memorial service and burial will be held at 2pm Tuesday, January 3, 2011 at Ten Mile Baptist Church in Lumberton.
She is survived by her children, Debbie Hamrick of Raleigh, Barbara Hein of Black Mountain and Flay Preston Hamrick Jr. of Lumberton; granddaughter, Stephanie Hein-Ripley; two great grandsons, Jasper Phoenix Weaver and Atali Sol Ripley; and three sisters, Virginia King of Lumberton, Betty Guffey of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Judy Long of Lumberton.
