Alease Rice Martin

Born in Gretna, VA, on March 24, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Willie Lester Rice and the late Annie Bayliss Rice. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Clyde Eldridge Martin and two brothers, Lester Ramsey Rice and Harold Ralph Rice.

A graduate of Gretna High School, she was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. Until declining

health she enjoyed friendship in the Lynchburg Red Hat Society and the Tic Tac Sew Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Martin Craig (Dennis) and Jill Martin Smeltzer (Robin); a granddaughter, Keller Alease Craig; two sisters-in-law, Patsy Watson Rice and Iris Martin Ireson; two special cousins, Marsha Bayliss Dalton and Caryn Rice Childress; a number of nieces and nephews and special neighbors, David and Mary Ann Mills and Charles and Mary White.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A reception at Whitten Timberlake Chapel will follow the service. Interment will be private.
