

Andrew Jackson Phillips, Jr., 87, of Evington, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Autumn Care Nursing home in Altavista. He was the husband to his late first wife Arlene Reynolds Phillips and to Louise East Phillips. Born December 27, 1926, in Campbell County, he was the son of the late Andrew Jackson Phillips, Sr. and the late Mary Belle Maddox Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was a retired textile worker for Burlington Industries, where he served for 39 years. He was also of the Christian faith, as he accepted the Lord as his Savior five years ago.
In addition to his first wife and parents, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by one brother, John Thornton Phillips and two sisters, Dorothy P. Hall and Nellie P. Thomas.
In addition to his wife, Louise, Mr. Phillips is survived by his son Michael Lee Phillips (Sue) of Portland, OR; his stepson, Donald D. Thurman (Debra) of Lynch Station; two sisters, Ruth P. See (Jim) of Vinton and Thelma P. Cumbie of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Andrew Phillips (Melissa) of Longview, WA, Amber Williamson (J. Russell) of Boones Mill and Chase Thurman (Kara) of Christiansburg; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted, 2 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Mr. Phillips’ nephew, Rev. Roy Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1-2 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
