Betty Ramsey Edwards, 80, of Lynchburg, died, Saturday, January 28, 2012, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Langdon Edison Edwards. Born March 7, 1931, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Carlton Lee Ramsey and the late Annie Younger Ramsey.
Betty was a retired bookkeeper for Robertson Drug Store and a member of Heritage United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Phillips Secretarial College. Betty also began volunteering for the Lynchburg General Hospital Auxiliary in 1999 and she has accumulated 3,478 volunteer hours working in the gift shop as well as Auxiliary Assistant Treasurer from 2000 to 2002 and full treasurer of the Auxiliary from 2003 until 2007. Betty volunteered for the many fund-raising events sponsored by the auxiliary every year such as Let Your Love Shine and Jewelry Sale and she was always the first to say, “I will be glad to volunteer in the Gift Shop for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so that others could be with their families.” This allowed for the gift shop to remain open during the holidays. She never turned down an opportunity to volunteer whenever extra help was needed. She loved every minute of volunteering and expressed this many times. Betty will be missed by all those that worked with her in the hospital. Betty was also an avid tennis player and card player, especially Bridge. She was a member of the Wildwood Bridge Club and she will be missed both by her tennis and bridge players.
Betty is survived by her longtime neighbor and close friend, Charles Richards, Sr. He will dearly miss their many walks together. She is also survived by her faithful canine companion, “Rusty.” Rusty will dearly miss Betty’s friendship.
A memorial service will be conducted, 11:00a.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Spring Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lynchburg General Hospital Auxiliary.
