Clarence William “C.W.” Harris, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at his home. For sixty-eight years, he was the devoted husband of Shirley West Harris.
Born April 23, 1933 in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Clarence Pitman Harris and Emma Mayhew Harris. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Harris Ellis. C.W. was retired from Rock Tenn. He was also a self-employed paint and wallpaper contractor, and a former employee of Archer Creek Foundry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Lynchburg Church of God of Prophecy.
In addition to his wife, C.W. is survived by two daughters, Deborah H. Brown and husband Freddie of Lynchburg and Crystal H. Hawkins and husband Gregg of Apex, NC; two brothers, Melvin Harris and wife Mimi of Huddleston and Charles “Charlie’ Harris and wife Flo of Moneta and four sisters, Vivian Cassell and husband Carl of Madison Heights, Donna H. Wright of Lynchburg, Peggy H. Johnson and husband Wayne of Moneta, and Betty Phillips of Norfolk.
C.W. is also survived by four grandchildren, Heather Martin and husband Tim, Lauren Brown, Camden Hawkins, and Gerek Hawkins and three great-grandchildren, Christian, Caden, and Kyden.
A memorial service to celebrate C.W.’s life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Friday, August 5, 2022 at the Lynchburg Church of God of Prophecy the Rev. Gary Vernon, Pastor Jonathan Gillette and the Rev. Melvin Harris officiating.
The family will receive friends, following the service.
