Born in Berryville, Virginia on May 31, 1946, Carrie was one of 9 children. She had four brothers and five sisters born of Philmore & Bessie Lewis Ashley. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers: Henry, Bud, Stewart and most recently Darrel Ashley; and a sweet older sister, Shirley Guess.
Carrie was a worker bee and she loved her job & her work family. She was a dedicated employee for over 30 years at Quick-E Food Store on Fort Avenue and more recently, was a teller at Carter Bank and Trust of Madison Heights until she retired in 2016. If it was up to Carrie, she would still be employed today but a work injury led to the early onset of a five plus year battle with dementia . This disease stole some final days and kept her from her true self. We are blessed that her laughter and great sense of humor remained even up until her last days.
Most of all, Carrie loved her family. She is survived by her four children; Tammy Welsh Knight (Scott), Bryan Welsh, Joseph Welsh, Jeffrey Welsh (Melanie); her nine grandchildren that adoringly called her “Granny Carrie”; Brandon Knight, Bradley Knight (Corey), Todd Knight (Bri); Hailey Welsh, Sydney Lloyd (Aaron), Liam Welsh, Joule Welsh, Brooklyn Welsh (Angie); Braden Welsh; and GG’s four great grandchildren; Aleah Lloyd, Lincoln Knight, Khloe Weller, and Sawyer Knight.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A brief graveside committal will immediately follow the service at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, starting at 11:00 a.m., at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
