Charlene worked at G.E. for 30 years before retirement. She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. Her church family was important to her and loved attending events with her church family.
Charlene was taught piano at a young age at her grandma Dearing’s insistence and learned many hymns. Her love of music and hymns carried on throughout her life and she loved to attend gospel singings especially the Singing in the Sun Festival. She played a mean hand of cards and loved playing Canasta, Hand and Foot and Dominoes with her friends and family. Some of her favorite things were spending time with her family, going to the beach, dancing and planting flowers. The greatest joy of her life was being a mother to Beth and Granny to her granddaughters and great granddaughters.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, John D. Gray and June Dearing Gray and a sister, Judy Gray.
She is survived by her daughter, Beth Stewart Cook (Ken), her granddaughters Kayla Cook and Stephanie Charte (Chris), her great granddaughters Sawyer and Brynna Charte, a sister Mary Sue Stanley (Tommy), a nephew David Spence (Jennifer), a niece Allison Grim (Chris), and great nieces and nephews Tobin and Lyssa Spence and Matthias and Lydia Grim.
Charlene knew the Lord and was looking forward to being with Jesus and all those who have passed before her. Charlene was able to spend the last weeks of her life surrounded by her family and loved ones. The family would like to give a special thanks to Taquita “Q” Wilkins who has been a faithful and compassionate caregiver and a thanks Centra Hospice for their kindness in these last few weeks.
