Born on February 20, 1960, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Miller T. Johnson and Elizabeth K. Johnson.
David had a deep love for dogs, books, and music. A die-hard Raiders fan, he remained hopeful for the future of his team. His favorite bands, the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, and The Replacements, filled his life with joy, much like the passion he brought to everything he did. While he could be cantankerous and grumpy at times, those who knew him best recognized the big heart and gentle giant within.
He is survived by his sister, Lisa D. Sandvig; two nephews, Travis J. Sandvig (Carly) and Jacob T. Sandvig; great niece and nephew, Rylann G. Sandvig and Miller A. Sandvig; one aunt, Eleanor “Boots” Kidd; and numerous cousins.
A Memorial Service in honor of David's life will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 3:00pm - 5:00pm at Keystone Baptist Church Pavilion with Pastor David Hill officiating, 212 Fleetwood Dr., Lynchburg, VA 24501. This will be a casual outdoor gathering, wear your favorite team jersey or band tee. There will be a meal to follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks donations be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society, 1211 Old Graves Mill Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24502 or at www.lynchburghumane.org.
