Doris Gowen Mitchell

Doris Gowen Mitchell, 94, of Autumn Care of Altavista and formerly of Rustburg passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Robert L. Mitchell.

Born August 6, 1926, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Howard Gowen and Eva Purvis Gowen. Doris was a life long member of Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church. She was a wonderful and loving wife and mother to her two children and will be missed dearly and never forgotten. She was kind to everyone she ever met.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Mitchell and one sister, Frances Bryant.

She is survived by one son, Randy Mitchell of Rustburg; two grandchildren, Jeff Mitchell and his wife Sarah of Richmond and Tammy Mitchell Gilbert and her husband Greg of Forest and two great grandchildren, Allyson and Kristen.

Due to Covid and weather concerns, a private graveside service will be conducted at Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Christy Mitchell officiating.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff at Autumn Care and a special thanks to Carolyn Little for the exceptional kindness shown to mom.
