Ed was born in Lynchburg, June 2, 1941 a son of the late Robert Milton Whitmore and Frances Hoover Whitmore.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, C.E. “Dee” Whitmore, II (Trish), Jerry Whitmore (Christina), Jon Michael Whitmore (Tracey), and three grandchildren, Angel, Gabe and Cullen Whitmore.
Ed had a talent for analysis of problems, which made him an excellent computer programmer and analyst through most of his working life. He also owned and managed a Sears catalog store in Altavista in the late 1980’s.
Twelve years working with Cub and Boy Scouts brought him a District Award of Merit for his service. He contributed to the maintenance of Timberlake and the Timberlake Homeowner’s Association for many years.
With skill in building and wiring, Ed enjoyed helping friends, neighbors, and his church with projects large and small. During his working years, Ed served Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where he was a charter member, on councils and committees. After retirement, he worked as Trustee and Maintenance Director performing jobs ranging from rewiring and spray painting the main chapel to maintaining the plantings around the church. He had a well-deserved reputation for being able to fix nearly anything. His sense of humor provided his friends and acquaintances many entertaining moments.
The family is most appreciative of the assistance graciously provided by Centra Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 7336 Timberlake Rd., Lynchburg.
A memorial service celebrating his live will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
