

Born on May 22, 1930, in Madison Heights, he was the son of the late Murrell and Myrtle Crews. Swanson served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired from Montague-betts Steel Company. Swanson enjoyed the outdoors and you could find him working in his garden and maintaining a beautiful yard. He was known in the neighborhood as the “tomato man”. Swanson also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Union Christian Church where he served as a deacon for many years.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded by four siblings.
Swanson is survived by his daughter, Yevonne Crews and husband, Roy Odegaard; son, David Murrell Crews and wife, Sammie; three grandchildren, Jennifer Tucker and husband, Scott, Michael Crews and wife, Crystal, and Chris Suchodolski; three great-grandsons, Colton Tucker, Landon Crews, and Alex Suchodolski; brother, Harold Crews; sister, Christine Dolinger; and numerous other family members.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Meade Cemetery with Pastor Jim Freeman officiating. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16.
