

Born in Appomattox County, February 22, 1930 he was a son of the late William Benjamin and Nettie Ferguson McCormick. He was the retired owner of Elwood L. McCormick Insurance Agency and McCormick Construction. He proudly served his country in the US Army and was a long time member of Fairview Christian Church where he was a past treasurer of the Loyal Sons and Daughters Sunday School class. Elwood enjoyed his children and grandchildren and spending family time at his personal paradise at Smith Mountain Lake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Goding and Loraine Guill and three brothers, Mott McCormick, Dick McCormick and Joe McCormick; a son in law, Jimmie G. Simpson and his beloved golden retriever, “Buddy”.
In addition to his wife he is survived by five children, Anthony Vincent McCormick and his wife Sharon of Forest, Jeffrey Lawson McCormick of Evington, Kimberly McCormick Simpson of Lynchburg, Steven Brian McCormick and Jason Todd McCormick both of Forest; two sisters, Mattie M. Martin of Lynchburg and Helen M. Scott of Appomattox; seven grandchildren, Jimmie G. Simpson, Jr., Kristin N. Moore, Nathaniel A. Simpson, Ryan C. Simpson, Brittany A. McCormick, Braden C. Smith and Grace K. Foster and three great grandchildren, Darian A. Simpson, Jimmie G. Simpson, III and Jaxon W. Manning and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Fairview Christian Church with the Pastor Curtis Wheeler and the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
