Emily Callahan Gilbert

Emily Callahan Gilbert, age 76, of Rustburg, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at her home. She was born in Lynchburg on June 6, 1945, daughter of the late Carrington Callahan and the late Ethel Callahan. Emily was a member of Coastal Worship Center and was a seamstress and interior designer for over 40 years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Elbert Wayne Gilbert; a brother, J.C. Callahan and two sisters, Elizabeth Hendricks and Louise Hall. Survivors include two children, Carol Scannell and Christopher W. Gilbert, Sr. and wife Tina; three sisters, Mattie Neal, Eva Cupec and Billie Langford. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday, November 26, 2021 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel where a celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday with Pastor Lonni Wickard officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 pm Saturday at Beech Grove Cemetery in Nelson County.
