Ernest McKinley "Remo" Williams III

Ernest McKinley “Remo” Williams, III, 52 of Lynchburg passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Virginia Baptist Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Cundiff Williams.

Born in Lynchburg, August 24, 1962, he was the son of the late Ernest McKinley Williams, Jr. and Iris McCormick Williams. Remo was retired from the Lynchburg Police Depart with the rank of lieutenant. During his 28 years of service, among his many accomplishments, he served as a Tactical Team leader and as Firearms Instructor for the department. He was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church.

One sister, Linda W. Groome and one nephew, Byron A. McCoy, Jr. preceded him in death.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Sarah Paige Williams of Lynchburg; two sisters, Bonnie W. McCoy and her husband Butch of Appomattox and Julie W. Black and her husband Dan of Greer, SC; his father and mother-in-law, David and Betty Cundiff of Evington; sister-in-law, Christie Cundiff of Evington and eight nieces and nephews, Patricia M Kessler, Abby G. Bradley, Molly G. Ouellette, William P. Black, Joshua M. Black, Jesse C. Black, Duean A. Black and Maggie F. Black.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2015 at Virginia Memorial Park with LPD Chaplain Jim Whitaker and the Rev. Louis Beckwith, Jr. officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the members of the Lynchburg Police Department for the support they provided and to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of the Pearson Cancer Center and Centra Health for the care they provided.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Lynchburg Police Department Helping Hands Foundation, 905 Court St., Lynchburg, VA 24501 or to the New Covenant School, 122 Fleetwood Dr., Lynchburg, VA 24501.
