

Born February 23, 1941, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late George Wallace Austin and the late Gladys Faulkner Austin and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Margie A. Martin and Ruby A. Burnette. Johnny was a retired foreman for Burruss Land and Lumber Company, where he worked for 46 years and was a member of the Mt. View Church of God. Johnny had a special love for baseball at an early age and pitched a no-hitter in the Babe Ruth League, where he played for two years. His pitching hand cast is in the Hall of Fame. He never knew a stranger and made friends easily with anyone he would meet.
In addition to his wife, Johnny leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Sheila A. Martin and her husband Allen of Forest; a very special granddaughter, Blair Alyse Brooks, who was the light of his life; his special pet Boo Boo, who he loved dearly; three sisters, Verla A. Lloyd, Shirley Wooldridge and Carolyn Franklin and her husband Joey, all of Lynchburg; and one brother, Dixie Austin of Lynchburg.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2013 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Lonnie Wickard officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
