James Terry Garrett

He was born in Appomattox County on March 27, 1930, son of the late Henry and Annie Garrett. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister, Henry S. Garrett, Jr., Braxton Garrett, Harold Garrett, and Irene G. Kanipe.

Terry was retired from Appomattox Garment Company and was a member of Fairview Christian Church having served as a Deacon and Elder. While his love was for his family, his passion was for his garden, the product of which he generously gave away to family and friends.

In addition to his loving wife, Elizabeth, to whom he has been married for 65 years, he is survived by 3 children, James “Jim” T. Garrett, Jr. and wife Tammy, Joyce G. Sawyer, and Jerald W. Garrett and wife Vicki; 1 brother, Laverne Garrett and wife Jean; 5 grandchildren, Ernie Sawyer, III and wife Amy, Eric Sawyer, J.W. Garrett, Jennifer Garrett and Letisha Nadelman and husband Cary. He is also survived by 1 special great granddaughter, Garrett Sawyer and Ernie Sawyer, Jr., father of Ernie III and Eric.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Centra Hospice and Becky Goodyear for all the love and compassion that they showed to Terry and the entire family.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Rev Curtis Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery in Appomattox County. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:30 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
