
Born June 9, 1944, in Rinard Mills, OH, he was a son of the late George Henry Harmon, and Gladys Williams Harmon. He was also preceded in death by a son, Douglas Harmon; and a sister, Darlene Harmon.
Mr. Harmon was a United States Army veteran, having served during Vietnam. He was employed at Mid State Construction Co. Inc. He was an avid NASCAR and Steelers fan, and loved playing sports with his children.
Survivors also include five children, James Harmon Jr. and wife Tammy, of Forest, Billy Harmon, of Lynchburg, Tommy Harmon and wife Christy, of Gladys, Emily Harmon and Ethan Harmon, of Rustburg; two brothers, Eugene Harmon, and Gerald Harmon, of Baltimore, OH; a sister, Willena Hughlett, of Houston, TX; six grandchildren, James Harmon III, Steven, Tiffany, Trisha, Alyssa, and Ashley Harmon; two special friends, Neal and Cris Viar.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2010, at College Hill Baptist Church, by the Rev. Andrew P. Grose. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to The American Heart Association.
