She was born in Washington, DC, on February 1, 1953, daughter of the late Rucker Mator Stevens and the late Dorothy Fitzherbert Stevens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Caryn Stevens Mohr.
Janice did her undergraduate work at the University of Virginia, completing a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics. For graduate education, Janice completed an M.S. in Engineering Science from the University of Tennessee and an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business. She went on to work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and eventually in the private sector. As an encore career, she ultimately worked as a professor at various colleges and universities before retirement. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, math, science, literature, hiking, and shopping.
Survivors include a son, Travis R. White and wife Macy of Bismarck, North Dakota and a brother, Charles R. Stevens and wife Celeste of Maitland, Florida.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, Virginia with Dr. Derik Hamby officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, from 10:00 Saturday until time of service.
