
Born February 20, 1926 in Burke County, N.C. he was a son of the late Purdy and Ida Townson Tomlinson.
He retired as a watchmaker and was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 16, and V.F.W. Post 8184.
Mr. Tomlinson is survived by two sons, Jay Tomlinson of Lynchburg, Gary Tomlinson of Forest; five grandchildren, Brett, Palmer, Ashley, Mickenzie Tomlinson and John Gilliam and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by brothers, Albert, Miles, and Fred Tomlinson and sisters, Marie Tomlinson, and Gladys T. Berry.
A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2011 in Whitten Timberlake Chapel conducted by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 8, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
