Nécrologie de Jean Miles Hedgepeth
From her home in Montverde, Florida, Jean Miles Hedgepeth, 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Thursday, June 1, 2023. Jean was ushered into heaven surrounded by her children, children-in-love and grandchildren. Precious time was spent with her as we sang psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:19). Praying with her and praying scripture over her, her hand rested in ours until it rested in the hand of Jesus. She was born in Lynchburg on March 17, 1928, daughter of the late Joseph M. Miles and the late Elsie Marsh Miles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Cecil M. Hedgepeth and a grandson Danny Wayne Bortzer Jean was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. The delight of her heart was spending time with her family! Clearly the goodness of God, His loving grace and His perfect timing orchestrated her family to be around her for her final days. She was a graduate of Brookville High school where she played softball and basketball. She was a member of the Sweet Adeline Chorale group, and a long-time member of Thomas Road Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. During her Florida residence, she was a member of Embrace Church in Montverde. Throughout her long life she enjoyed bowling, playing golf, traveling, painting, playing cards, watching old western movies and Fox News. Her many occupations included working for General Electric Corp., Virginia. Employment Commission, and she was the manager for Old Virginia Candle Company’s gift shop when it was on Timberlake Road. She adored several special pets, her Maltese CJ and her Yorkies Jamie and Gracie. Through an abundance of grief and tears, we rejoice in the hope so clearly stated in Matthew 22:32 “… God is not the God of the dead but of the living.” Because of her trust and faith in our resurrected Savior, she is not dead; she now lives in her eternal home. We look forward with Scripture-filled expectation to one day sharing that eternal home with her! She is survived by her son Kevin Garber and wife Christy; two daughters Sandra Parker and Robin Robinson and husband Jim; two stepdaughters Laverne Price and husband Roger and Patricia Bottoms; her grandchildren, Michael Bortzer, Chris Bortzer, Cori Shick and husband Doug, Kacey Young and husband Matt, Christopher Garber and wife Maddie and Tim Robinson and wife Dawn. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel followed by a graveside service at 2:00 pm at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
