

John Wesley “PePop” Staples, 77, of Rustburg, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Lynchburg General Hospital from injuries received from an automobile accident. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Arelene Staples.
Born in Campbell County, April 18, 1945, he was the son of the late Burnley Mack Staples and Margaret Mason Staples. He was a US Army veteran and also the National Guard. He retired from Gould Battery and was a member of Whites United Methodist Church. John was an avid NASCAR and Washington Commanders fan. He was a great husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffrey Scott Staples, John Wesley “Chopper” Staples, Jr.; sister, Ruth Staples and three granddaughters, Candi Staples, Crystal Staples and Carrie Staples.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joseph Ray Staples and Jason Brian Staples; one brother, Burnley Mack “JR” Staples, Jr.; eight grandchildren, Kristen Riley, Jessica Staples, Amber Lynn Staples, Jonathan Staples, Tyler Staples, Ryan Staples, Dustin Staples and Jason Staples, Jr., and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by many friends and other extended family.
A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Dwayne Martin officiating.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service and at other times at the residence.
