She was born on September 15, 1935 in Lynchburg, daughter of the late William Henry Phlegar and the late Blanche Hicks Phlegar.
Our mother was the epitome of kindness. She did not spend time gossiping or criticizing. Her time was spent loving others. Her smile and her laughter were infectious. She was a bright light in this world. She was our light. She was an incredible piano player. She enjoyed singing in her church choir and loved music of all genres. She loved the beach and enjoyed many trips with her girls as she called myself and Cara. She enjoyed watching the waves rolling in and out while sipping on her Lambrusco! It was never too hot to soak up the sun. Her faith in God and His promises were unwavering and she instilled that in us.
She enjoyed her iPhone and staying connected on Facebook. She even picked up texting and loved using emoji’s. She figured out her smartTV, navigated Netflix and Prime Video, and watched Gunsmoke faithfully!
She was the pure definition of grace and elegance. She was and is the most beautiful soul I have ever known. In later years, her health declined but her mind was ever so sharp. She enjoyed running errands with me, going to dinner, spending time with her family and loving them.
She is survived by her son, David Camden (Teresa), her daughter, Allison Norris (Steve) and a bonus daughter, Michelle Douthat, all of Lynchburg.
She was blessed with two grandsons , Ryan Campbell(Kara) of Roanoke, and David Camden, Jr. (Terri) of Goode, and two granddaughters, Jackie Camden of Chicago, IL, and Cara Norris(Ryan)of Belton , KY. Extended family members include Jenny Reeves, Ruthanne Reeves, Elizabeth Rosser( Charlie) , Will Reeves, Janel Reeves(JR), and Zach Reeves. She was blessed to have 6 great-grandchildren, Elliott, Hunter and Wyatt Camden and Jaxon and Ally Campbell, and Parker Gay She adored each one and loved them infinitely. Her bonus great-grandchildren were just as loved. They are Sage, Lena, Eli, Ethan, Trent, Caleb, Nicholas, and Mateo.
We would like to thank specific staff at the Summit for the care and comfort they extended to our mother. Kristen, Ken, Katie, Georgie, Tracey, Ebony, Anita, Kelsey, Jazmyn, Q, Iretta, Kendall and Rachael demonstrated such love and compassion during this journey. We will be forever grateful for all that you did for her. We would like to thank Centra Hospice for their care and management of her last days. Specifically Mary Powell and all the nurses who came at all hours with kind words and empathy for the situation.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel where a celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, Centra Hospice, or West Lynchburg Baptist Church.
